ANDERSON COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS

Providing Horticultural Education, Outreach, and Service to Anderson County

Master Gardeners perform work related to horticulture for the Extension Office.  This work may consist of a variety of jobs. Master Gardener volunteers work with the staff in the Extension Office and respond to phone calls from the community.  Volunteers answer walk-in and telephone inquiries from the community during the week at the County Extension Office. They participate in workshops, clinics and demonstrations on gardening, trees, shrubs, lawns, plants, insects and related topics for the general public.  Master Gardeners assist the County Extension Agent in preparing and producing specific educational resources, including media materials and home horticulture classes.  The objectives of the Master Gardener program are to expand the capacity of the Texas AgriLIFE Extension and to distribute horticultural information to individuals and groups in the community.

Master Gardener volunteer work includes conducting research, writing press releases, creating landscape designs, working with 4-H, nursing homes, and City departments, including the Parks and Recreation Department.  The Master Gardener program strives to develop and enhance community programs related to horticulture.  Depending on the community’s needs, these may be environmental improvement activities, horticultural therapy projects or community and school garden programs.

Master Gardeners also participate in a Speakers Bureau. If you would like to schedule a Master Gardener to speak to your organization, contact the Anderson County Extension Office at 903-723-3735.  Programs take time to schedule, so please contact the Extension Office well in advance of your meeting.

The Master Gardener program allows individuals to dedicate their time and talents to enhancing, improving and beautifying their local community by utilizing the science and art of horticulture.  You may contact a Master Gardener at 903-723-3735 or visit the Anderson County Extension Office at 101 E. Oak St., Palestine.
