PROPAGATING FERNS

PROPAGATING FERNS

Gather healthy fronds when the spores are fat and fuzzy. Tap the fronds inside a plastic bag in order to release and save the spores. Boil a brick to kill any bacteria on it and place it into a bowl or pan with water halfway up the brick. Pour boiling water over some peat moss; when cool, spread a layer of it over the brick. Carefully tap the spores over the peat and cover the entire affair with a plastic bag.

When the sprouting ferns have turned the brick green, divide and transplant into pots of moist peat. Cover with plastic bag with a few pin-prick holes. Place in a protected spot with shade.

A month later, you will have lots of baby plants to divide into pots.
