Throughout this section we have discussed keeping the patients' needs in mind.  Once again, you will need to keep the patients in mind when obtaining materials for the garden itself.

Raised Narrow Beds for Wheelchair Patients - Landscaping timbers are useful to go around these raised, narrow beds.  Flat rocks can be used to go around these beds, however, they might have sharp edges that will catch on people's clothes or tear skin.  The plastic or metal edging that goes around the beds is also not recommended for the same reason as the rocks.


PVC Pipe or Soaker Hoses - These are useful for irrigating the beds. PVC is inexpensive and drilling holes every 2-3 inches in the pipe will create the same effect as the soaker hoses.
