Carmen Lander received her B.S. in Agronomy from Texas A&M in 1985. She received her M.S. in Horticulture in 1989 from Texas A&M.

My research centers on varietal testing of melons including cantaloupe and honeydew melons and the improvement of onion and carrot germ plasm in cooperation with Drs Marvin Miller Texas A&M/Weslaco and Leonard Pike Texas A&M/College Station.

Our melon trialing program emphasizes evaluation of commercial varieties for disease tolerance and resistance and for production attributes. Melon varieties in our spring melon trials are tested in multiple locations throughout South Texas. The onion and carrot breeding work includes the establishment, maintenance and harvesting of vegetable breeding plots for Dr. Pike each season.
