STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND ACTIONS Components of the program in Texas will utilize the full range of services, technologies and resources available, resulting in activities to include:
- Developing plans for Extension programming to include field demonstrations, meetings, seminars, workshops, publications, and other education methods.
- Utilizing TTVN, E-mail, and other technologies and forums to further timely program development and delivery.
- Assisting in developing producer-to-producer information exchange to enable producers making transitions to more sustainable systems to share ideas and draw on the experiences of other producers.
- Coordinating sustainable agriculture farm tours and field days throughout the State.
- Providing technical and informational assistance to individual farmers and ranchers for making a transition to more sustainable agricultural systems.
- Consulting and working closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and other state and federal agencies in carrying out educational and technical assistance, and related programs.
- Developing, coordinating, and directing special education and outreach programs in areas highly susceptible to ground or surface water contamination, linking sustainable agriculture information with water quality improvement information.
- Developing information sources relating to crop diversification, alternative crops, on-farm food or commodity processing and on-farm energy generation.
- Providing information about well-water testing and well-head protection so those persons dependent upon underground drinking water supplies will better understand the need for regular water testing, information on sources of testing, and how to interpret test results and providing for the protection of underground water supplies.
- Providing specific information on water quality and best management practices to protect surface and ground water from pollution.
- Providing specific information on nutrient management practices.
- Providing information concerning whole-farm, whole-ranch and silvicultural management.
- Developing strategies (processes and products) for public information about sustainable agriculture.
