LAB EXERCISE NO. 1: WORLD DISTRIBUTION AND PRODUCTION OF CITRUS AND SUBTROPICAL FRUITS
OBJECTIVES:
1) To acquaint the student with producing areas of the world and with up-to-date production, export, and import information.
2) To learn the sources of citrus statistics on the Internet.
Prepare a typed report that covers the following points. References must be cited.
1. Name the top 5 countries in Orange production in the most recent years for which data is available. You must also give the production data to prove that you are correct.
2. Show the citrus producing areas on a world map.
3. Give 2 reasons why the area between 10o N and 10o S latitude is generally devoid of citrus.
4. Prepare a table or graph showing the production of oranges, grapefruit, and lemons for the five leading countries in the world for each fruit for the 2003-04 season.
5. Would you expect the larger supply of grapefruit and oranges to reach the world market during the December - March season or the June - September season?
6. What Texas Counties produce citrus? What percent of the total acreage does each county contain?7. Give two reasons why fresh orange consumption in the developed countries is declining?References:
