Slicing Images

When placing large images on a page, the down loading time may increase. Slicing an image breaks a large picture into many small pictures. This decreases the file size and helps the page load faster. A graphic design program, such as image ready, will allow slicing the large picture into many small pictures. In addition, the small pieces of the large image can then be linked without going through the image mapping procedure. When saving the sliced image choose "save optimized as." This feature saves the small image pieces into a folder named "images" and writes the html code for the page.

If watched closely, the pieces of the picture can be seen loading on the course modules page, Texas Superstars and at the Junior Master Gardener site.
